How to Stop Snoring

If you suffer from snoring (or have a partner who snores) then you will know the misery in can bring in terms of interupted sleep and constant tiredness. Your pattern of sleep may be marked by waking yourself up with your snoring, or perhaps you are woken by frustrated prods and pokes by your partner who is desperately trying to get to sleep. Some couples may resort to sleeping in separate rooms as result of the non snoring partner being subjected to constantly interupted sleep. This inevitably damages the relationship. If this is a picture you recognise then you need to act and take control of your snoring. Let’s look at some of the options available:

Nasal Dilators

Nasal dilators as small plastic or metal devices that hold open the nostrils. The effect of this is prevent the nostrils collapsing during sleep and encouraging breathing through the nose rather than the mouth during sleep. When you breathe through your nose when you are asleep you are less likely to snore.

Nasal Strips

Nasal strips work in a similar way to nasal dilators in that they hold open the nasal passages and encourage breathing through the nose when asleep. However, instead of fitting inside the the nose they stick to the outside of the nose and hold them open that way.

Chin Straps

Chin straps work by keeping the mouth shut while sleeping. This forces the snorer to breathe their nose while asleep and reduces the chances of snoring.

Oral Shields

Oral shields fit inside the mouth and force the wearer to change the position of the jaw. This brings about a more open airway and significantly reduces snoring.

Hypnosis

Hypnosis can stop snoring through re-training the snorer to breatheĀ  differently when they are asleep. The hypnosis can be administered by a trained practitioner or self-administered. There are also CDs and mp3 downloads available which allow to use hypnosis techniques. One such download is Snore Buster which has been shown to be extremely effective. One of the great things about this product is that it also features a recording designed for the non-snoring partner to help them train themselves to stop hearing the snoring and finally get some sleep.
